About Me

Welcome to my website! My name is Olivia Nemec and I am a third year Film and Media Studies student at the University of California Santa Barbara. I decided to pursue this major because, for as long as I can remember, I have aspired to become a storyteller.

My peers would say that I am a writer with a dream. As a News Reporter at KCSB 91.9 Radio, I had the invaluable opportunity to learn from a retired New York Times reporter whose passionate accounts of metropolitan storytelling sparked my pursuit of journalism in the Big Apple. My work as a Social Media Intern for Huffington Post and Sports Illustrated columnist Nora Tobin, galvanized my proficiency with multiple online platforms to promote her brand and share stories in our global village. I continued in the pursuit of my dream at WORD Magazine, where my mission was to creatively capture the stories of those struggling with body image, and to harness journalism’s unique ability to inform and foster a more compassionate community. My dedication to originality and my love for storytelling have consistently fueled my passion for writing, and now inspire my pursuit of the professional writing minor at UCSB.

Growing up in an immigrant household has opened my ears to what our world has to say and inspired my attentiveness to world events. Listening to my parents’ story has taught me a constant willingness to learn, to work hard, and to always be inviting of change.
